Strawberry-Banana Bubble Tea!














As you know we've been on a serious Asian kick recently, and today's Taiwanese treat is no exception! We invented this recipe by combining our favorite things from several Bubble Tea recipes!

Strawberry-Banana Bubble Tea 

1 cup frozen strawberries
1 frozen banana
1/2 cup coconut milk
2 ounces rum (If you're in the mood to get Fashionably Bombed!)

For Tapioca Pearls:
5 cups water
1/2 cup tapioca pearls
2 tablespoons maple syrup

In a medium sauce pan, bring water to a boil.  Add tapioca pearls and stir.  Turn to low heat and continue to cook for 5 minutes.  Strain tapioca pearls and cover with maple syrup.  Let cool for at least 15 minutes.  Meanwhile add strawberries, banana, coconut and rum (optional!) to a blender.  Blend until smooth.  Add tapioca pearls to the bottom of a glass and add strawberry-banana mixture.  How do you sa, "YUM!" in Taiwanese???

Foodie Friday: Cajun Kale Chips




Cajun Kale Chips

4 cups Kale (stems removed and leaves torn into 1-2 inch pieces)
1 tablespoon Olive Oil
2 teaspoons Cajun Seasoning (or to taste)
2 teaspoons Parmesan Cheese
2 Garlic Cloves (minced or grated to make a paste)

Wash and thoroughly dry kale.  Tear into 1-2 inch pieces, leaving behind the tough stems. In a large bowl, mix olive oil, garlic and Cajon seasoning.  Add kale and toss until each piece is thoroughly covered. Place kale in a 300F oven for 20-25 minutes.  Kale should be crisp, but not burnt!  Enjoy!

Drink This, Wear That: The Mean Green Edition


We're having lots of fun this week in honor of Earth Day!  Now while hippie chic isn't normally our thing, once a year we can get into it!  All year long we're big fans of organic foods, and alcohol is no exception.  That's why today's featured liquor is Vodka 14, an organic, craft distilled spirit from the Rocky Mountains.  And what else would you wear while drinking a high-end organic vodka, but a $370 recycled necklace by Marni? Cheers to you, Mother Earth!

We discovered these fabulous paper straws while attending a Pinterest party at a paper boutique in Venice. We love that they're "green" and every other color of the rainbow! When we're not sipping cocktails with them, we're using them to make things like our DIY Pixie Sticks!

Taste Test Tuesday: Larabars!



So these aren't exactly candy, more like hippie candy, but they're really good and very healthy! Although we do love our candy and cocktails, we get excited when we find something tasty that has so few ingredients. Most Larabar flavors only contain things like nuts and dried fruit. Now these aren't as colorful or as exciting as most of our Taste Test Tuesday finds, but we've been eating them for years now and thought Earth Day week would be the perfect time to reveal our inner "hippies"! Peace!

Banana Bread: It's got a striking resemblence to the real thing! Yum!
Cherry Pie: We're not going to tell you that this actually tastes like a slice of cherry pie, but it's pretty damn good, nonetheless! This one is probably our favorite flavor!
Key Lime Pie: Again, the whole pie thing is a bit of a stretch, but the lime juice and coconut make this another really tasty flavor!
Lemon Bar: This one is probably our least favorite flavor, although it's still pretty good.  There's just something about the lemon flavor that isn't quite right...
Tropical Fruit Bar: This one should be called Piña Colada! It's got all of those good island flavors like coconut and pineapple.  It just needs a little rum!

Earth Day Green Drink





In honor of Earth Day we're going green all week long! This first post is not only a nod to Mother Earth, but also our attempt at kicking a very serious Coke habit! No, not the white stuff, the brown stuff. It's one of our favorite naughty indulgences! Maybe if we drink our green drink from a Coca-Cola glass we won't notice the difference??? But seriously, this drink is actually very tasty and it makes you feel like you can conquer the world!

Green Drink

5-6 apples
2 cups of fresh greens (spinach, swiss chard or kale)
Juice of 1 lemon or lime
Add ingredients to your juicer and juice!
Now if you're down with Earth Day, but just not sure you can down not a whole glass of fruits and veggies, make it a little easier by adding a shot of Organic 14 vodka!

Foodie Friday: Pop Rock Strawberries!



With all of the Pop Rocks we've been taste-testing recently (see that post here), we had to find something to do with the leftovers! It also happens to be the beginning of strawberry season here in Central California, so we put them together and Voilà! Pop Rock Strawberries were born! 

Pop Rock Strawberries

Strawberries
White and/or milk chocolate
Pop Rocks
Melt the white chocolate and the milk chocolate separately in the microwave for about 30 seconds. Remove and stir. If not completely melted, microwave for another 30 seconds. Dip each strawberry into the chocolate and then into a bowl of Pop Rocks!  Easy, right???

Drink This, Wear That: Talk Nerdy to Me


We may be all glamorous and sparkly now, but trust us, we've had our nerdy moments! There are lots of different kinds of nerds and being named after Flannery O'Connor and Katherine Anne Porter, I guess we were destined to be literary nerds. Although Flannery was a math major for awhile (and still gets excited when solving equations) and Katherine speaks 8 languages (and counting), literary nerdiness is kind of in our blood as daughters of an English professor and whiskey connoisseur. And during our undergraduate years at UC Berkeley, we had our fair share of "deep" conversations around a bottle of some obscure hand-crafted whiskey. There, we've confessed, we feel so much better now... Do join the nerd herd and try Stranahans amazingly smooth Rocky Mountain concoction! And don't forget your ironic hot pink glasses necklace by Kidviskous, because what else would you wear while imbibing a tall glass of nerd juice?

Taste Test Tuesday: Pop Rocks Part II



Results:
Grape:  Not very flavorful.  They definitley don't taste like grapes, but they don't taste like grape candy either!
Cotton Candy Explosion: With a name like that...well let's just say that they live up to their name! Best of all, though, is the chic turquoise and red color combo!
Watermelon: BO-RING!  We were expecting a crazy sour watermelon flavor, and these were kind of blah...

Now don't let those leftover Pop Rocks go to waste!  Go make a Pop Rock of Love Martini with them! And don't forget to check out Taste Test Tuesday: Pop Rocks Part I!

Japanese Margarita







Inspired by our recent trip to Asia (OK so it wasn't exactly Asia, it was the Asian supermarket, but it felt very authentic!) we put a Japanese twist on one of our favorite warm weather cocktails!

Japanese Margarita

2 cups frozen honeydew melon cubes (put in the freezer the night before)
1/2 cup lime juice
1/2 cup tequila
1/4 cup Midori
1 tablespoon sugar

To a blender add all ingredients and blend!  Konichiwaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!

Flashback Friday the 13th!



We had BIG plans for today's post, unfortunately we couldn't find a store that carries hockey gear here in Central California!  The plan was to do a fashion massacre photoshoot in honor of Jason from Friday the 13th complete with bedazzled hockey masks!  Oh, well...next year???  Instead we flash you back to Halloween where we made these scary and equally delicious Bloody Eye Hemmorhages!  Happy Friday the 13th!

Bloody Eye Hemmorhage

2 ounces lychee syrup (from can)
2 ounces of any red berry flavored liqueur (We recommend Okanagan's Cherry Liqueur)
1 ounce freshly squeezed lemon juice
1 ounce vodka
1/2 ounce Irish cream
Ice

To a shaker add ice, lychee syrup, red liqueur, lemon juice and vodka. Shake, shake shake! Strain into a clear glass and carefully pour Irish cream into glass on the back of a spoon. Garnish with a Bloody Eyeball. Who's thirsty???

We've been on a serious Asian kick lately (A karate kick, that is! BAHAHAHA!) What with our Asian Fusion Mojito, our feature in Audrey Magazine, our Japanese candy extravaganza, and our Spiked Thai Iced Tea! So today we're wrapping it up with a special Asian edition of Drink This, Wear That! We instantly fell in love with this yellow print dress by Tucker and thought it paired perfectly with the first Asian inspired cocktail we ever made- our Ty Collins!

Taste Test Tuesday: Japanese Candy!









Well we did it, we realized a childhood dream this weekend. We walked through the candy aisle of our favorite Asian grocery store and bought one of everything that looked like fun! We tried Hello Kitty hard candies, Botan Rice Candy, gum that doubles as a whistle, Green Tea flavored Kit Kats and best of all...Pepsi flavored gumballs! The one let down? The pretty pink bag that looked like it was full of chocolate shavings, but was actually full of dried seaweed- GROSS! Why was that in the candy aisle??? 

We had so much fun working on this project that we highly recommend doing an Asian candy taste test of your own! Coming next time: Indian sodas!

Spiked Thai Iced Tea







We've always loved Thai iced tea, so recently while dining at our favorite Thai restaurant, we asked how to make it. We got the basic recipe down and then added our own Fashionably Bombed touch, of course!

Spiked Thai Iced Tea

4 ounces Baileys (or unsweetened condensed milk for the non-alcoholic version)
1 cup water
4 tablespoons Thai tea mix (we used Pantai Norasingh)
3-4 teaspoons sugar (or to taste)

Bring water and tea to a boil.  Stir in sugar to taste. Remove from heat and strain* into a heat proof container.  Let tea cool down for at least 1 hour.  Fill a glass with ice and pour in tea mixture, leaving some space at the top.  For the spiked version, pour in Bailey's.  For the non-alcoholic version pour in condensed milk.  Stir until mixed well.

*We used cheese cloth for this.

Foodie Friday: Easter Basket Candy!




We got to dive into our Easter baskets a little early this year!  Here's what we got and what we thought:

Lindt Chocolate Carrots- These cleverly packaged treats are solid milk chocolate blended with hazlenut.  Not only are they are super tasty, but they also made a great cocktail garnish for our Carrot Easter-ita Margarita!

Snickers Egg- This tastes just like a Snickers, but more Easter-y because it's in the shape of an egg!
YAY!

Cadbury Caramel Egg- It's like the original Cadbury Creme Egg, but MUCH better because it's a big glop of caramel in a milk chocolate egg shell!

Hubba Bubba Original Bubble Tape- We got tricked into thinking this was a special Easter flavor, because it had a picture of a bunny on it!  It still has a good flavor, but weird texture- it desinigrates too fast and gets too soft. 

Fluffy Stuff Cotton Tails- These clearly are Easter specific candies, but what a BIG disappointment!  We envisioned cute little cotton tail shaped puffs of cotton candy and instead just found a big blob of multi-colored sugar with no flavor.

Happy Easter Candy Puzzle & Bracelets- These were pretty tasty until we read the package and found out that they're Made In China!  What did we just eat????

Drink This, Wear That: The Cotton Candy Edition!


Nothing says fun like cotton candy! Can we get an A-men??? When we first started our blog we had visions of cotton candy martinis dancing in our heads, and one of our favorite photos of us was taken at the fair with cotton candy in hand! It truly is the quintessential candy that tells the world you're having a good time! So just imagine our delight when we happened to walk by this gorgeous bottle of Cotton Candy Liqueur at the store the other day! We couldn't help but to pair it with something equally fun like these hot pink shoes by Kate Spade!

DIY Tuesday: Chocolate Covered Peeps!











Step #1: Polish your gorgeous nails with OPI's Coney Island Cotton Candy and top with Zoya "Chloe" pink sparkly nail polish.
Step #2: Put on a vintage pink starburst ring!
Step #3: Wrap your arms in gold link (similar one here) and vintage gemstone encrusted bracelets!
Step #4: Melt white and milk chocolate chips in separate bowls.
Step #5: Separate Peeps.
Step #6: Dip bottom halves of Peeps into chocolate, alternating between white and milk.
Step #7: Garnish their little butts with sprinkles!
Step #8: Let dry and enjoy!!!
