DIY Tuesday: Homemade Valentine's Day Lollipops!

Here's what you'll need:

1 cup sugar
½ cup light corn syrup
¼ cup water
1 packet of cherry Kool-Aid
Heart shaped lollipop molds
Lollipop sticks
Pink and red cake decorations
Vegetable oil (for greasing the mold)
Candy thermometer

Step #1: Put on an over-the-top crystal bling ring (similar one here!)
Step #2: Wrap your arms in Betsey Johnson kisses!
Step #3: Spray your heart shaped mold with cooking spray or rub with vegetable oil. Put a stick into each mold.
Step #4: Combine the sugar, corn syrup, and water in a medium saucepan over medium-high heat. Insert the candy thermometer and stir until sugar dissolves.
Step #5: Allow to boil, without stirring, until candy reaches 295 degrees (hard-crack stage). About 15 minutes.
Step #6: Once the candy reaches 295 degrees, remove it from heat. Stir in Kool-Aid.
Step #7: Pour the candy into the mold cavities, making sure to cover the back of the stick.
Step #8: Add embellishments if desired (we used cake sprinkles!)
Step #9: Allow to cool completely and remove once hardened.

Few things get us as excited as sparkly jewelry and when we first found these gorgeous Tarina Tarantino heart necklaces we piled them on! It's so hard to pick just one! In fact, Flannery wore so many in our Sparkle-tini video (below) that she had a neck ache the next day, but it was TOTALLY worth it! Check out some of the amazing color combinations: Bubblegum, Fuschia, Teal, MultiSiam & Aurora!

Cherry Lime Champagne Cocktail/Mocktail

Maraschino cherries are something that we can eat entire jars of in one sitting (well Flannery can, at least!)  And with a lime tree in the backyard we decided to combine two of our favorite things with another favorite- champagne!    For this cocktail we used those fluorescent red chemical bombs commonly called maraschino cherries, but in an effort to eliminate some Red #40 from our diets, we were inspired to make our own!  Stay tuned for that post tomorrow...

Cherry Lime Champagne Cocktail
1 ounce maraschino cherry juice (from the jar)
1 ounce freshly squeezed lime juice
1 maraschino cherry (DIY post coming tomorrow!)
Zest of one lime

Add cherry juice, lime juice and lime zest and to a champagne flute. Stir well and fill to the top with champagne. Garnish with a maraschino cherry!

Cherry Lime Sparkling Mocktail

1 ounce maraschino cherry juice (from the jar)
1 ounce freshly squeezed lime juice
1 maraschino cherry (DIY post coming tomorrow!)
Zest of one lime
Sparkling cider

Add cherry juice, lime juice and lime zest and to a champagne flute.  Stir well and fill to the top with sparkling cider.  Garnish with a maraschino cherry!

As you all know we were recently featured in our favorite new publication, Minted Magazine! So we thought we'd do a special "Drink This, Wear That" in their honor! Since mint is one of our favorite ingredients, it was hard to pick just one cocktail for this post, but we finally settled on the gorgeous and tasty Thin Mint-tini and this fabulous mint green dress by Zac Posen!

Fun Fact Friday: We Heart Cats!

By now you may have seen us sneak some cat photos into a few blog posts (you can see Thurston here, Graybee here, and Flannery Junior here and here) , but now we're going all out and screaming from the top of our lungs that "WE LOVE CATS!!!" We've grown up with cats our entire lives, our parents had a cat named Flannery long before they had either of us, and Katherine's first word was "kitty"! That being said, even we aren't as crazy as this fellow cat lover! Enjoy...

Drink This, Wear That: The Hot & Spicy Edition!

Thanks to the agricultural bounty here in Central California, we are surrounded by an amazing variety of delicious citrus!  Flannery even has an orange tree that reaches to her second story bedroom window.  Some mornings she just opens the window and breakfast is served!  Although oranges and tangerines are obvious favorites, nothing compares to our new favorite- the Oro Blanco grapefruit!  And there's no better way to use it than in our infamous Grapefruit & Jalapeño Margarita!  So what do you wear while sipping this sweet, sour and spicy concoction? A sexy jalapeño-green dress by Lanvin and some red hot nails by Deborah Lippmann. It may be cold outside, but this a surefire way to warm things up!

Want it Wednesday: Cotton Candy Machine

This Christmas Flannery surprised Katherine with a gift that she had been secretly wanting ever since she saw an infomercial for it!  A Cotton Candy Machine!!!  Since then we've had a blast turning any and every flavor of hard candy into that magically fluffy stuff!  Oh, and we can't wait to make a batch of our Cotton Candy Martinis and garnish them with mini puffs of homemade cotton candy!!!

Taste Test Tuesday: Voli Vodka

Although we are far from calorie counters, (Hellooooooooo! We make candy cocktails and garnish them with more candy!) we thought we would taste test some low calorie vodka samples in honor of New Year's Resolutions everywhere!

Voli Lyte: To be totally honest, we don't ever drink straight vodka. We're mixologists! But if you're counting calories, this is a good choice because it doesn't taste much different from regular vodka.
Orange Vanilla Fusion: We both agreed that this one is super tasty! It tastes like a 50/50 bar, and who doesn't like that???
Raspberry Cocoa Fusion: We both liked this one and thought it would be nice on the rocks with soda water.
Espresso Vanilla Fusion: Katherine liked this flavor and thought it would be a great addition to a White Russian, while Flannery isn't big on anything coffee flavored.
Voli Lemon: WOW! Have you ever had a glass of Lemon Scented Mr. Clean? Yeah, that's kinda what this tastes like...
So there you have it! Your special Low-Cal edition of Taste-Test Tuesday!
