Best of 2011: Drink This, Wear That!

2011 has been one seriously fabulous year! We're celebrating it all week with our "Best of 2011" series!

Favorite "Drink This, Wear That": It was our first DTWT post, and frankly, we think it's our best!
Green sequined dress by French Connection, Pink Pop Flower by Ban.do
Today we bring you a new feature that breaks our blog concept down to the very basics--Cocktails & Fashion! And in honor of our French heritage, we just simply had to do something to celebrate Bastille Day! Our grandmother was born and raised in Marseille, in the south of France, and we have many cousins in various cities around the country who we visit as often as possible! And, seriously, does it get any better than that?

Today's featured liqueur is St. Germain, which we love everything about!  The bottle, the flavor, the ad campaigns... And although we get lots of liquor samples sent to us, nothing has ever arrived as chicly as this particular package!  We were very impressed- from the colorful photos in the press kit to the beautiful recipe cards.  There was even a handwritten note!  Ladies and Gentlemen, St. Germain is keepin' it classy. And if you're wondering what to do with it, check out our Fabulosi-tini cocktail or just mix it with champagne.  VoilĂ !

Best of 2011: Favorite Video

2011 has been one seriously fabulous year! We're celebrating it all week with our "Best of 2011" series!

Favorite Video: We went all out last St. Patrick's Day! We channeled Lil Wayne and Fat Joe, got a pole dancing lesson and learned to make it rain on some leprechauns! The result was our all-time favorite Fashionably Bombed video...

Best of 2011: Favorite DIY Project

2011 has been one seriously fabulous year! We're celebrating it all week with our "Best of 2011" series!

Favorite DIY Project: You all know us pretty well by now, and if there's one ingredient that we love more than any other it's...bubblegum! We've made tons of bubblegum infused cocktails, but this time we got to wear the bubblegum!

Bubblegum Necklace

Step #1: Put on a pretty, sparkly ring like this rhinestone bow by Betsey Johnson!
Step #2: Wrap your arms in bubblegum bracelets (This was our first bubblegum jewelry-making attempt inspired by Formal Fringe!)
Step #3: Select a fun, brightly colored ribbon
Step #4: Cut a piece about double the length that you want your necklace to be
Step #5: Tie a knot near the end of the ribbon
Step #6: Gently poke holes in both ends of the gumball with a metal skewer (put gumballs in microwave for a few seconds to soften them)
Step #7: Thread a large tapestry needle with your ribbon
Step #8: Pull your ribbon through both holes in the gumball
Step #9: Tie a knot on the other side of the gumball
Step #10: Continue the process until it's as long as you want it!

PS: Graybee loves her new bubblegum collar!  (Don't worry, we took it off right after the photo was taken!)

Best of 2011: Favorite Cocktail

2011 has been one seriously fabulous year!  We're celebrating it all week with our "Best of 2011" series!

Favorite Cocktail:  We don't know if it's the fact that we invented this masterpiece at the peak of strawberry season (our favorite time of the year), or if it's the fact that we were able to incorporate butter and cream cheese into a cocktail, either way this has to be our favorite concoction of 2011...

Strawberry Pie Daiquiri
Makes 1

8-10 frozen strawberries (the best thing to do is buy fresh ones and freeze them overnight)
2 ounces rum
1 ounce freshly squeezed lime juice
1 ounce simple syrup
1 tablespoon cream cheese
2-3 graham crackers (crushed)
1-2 tablespoons melted butter
Whipped cream

Add strawberries, rum, lime juice, simple syrup and cream cheese to a blender and blend until slushy. To garnish glasses dip them rim in melted butter, then in graham cracker crumbs. Top with whipped cream and garnish with a strawberry!

Winter Sangria

Winter Sangria

One 750 ml bottle of red wine
1 grapefruit (sliced into circles)
1 lemon (sliced into circles)
1 orange (sliced into circles)
1 kiwi (sliced into circles)
Juice of 2 oranges (Appx. ¾ cup)
Juice of 2 lemon (Appx. ½ cup)
1 cup simple syrup
Club soda (to top)

Slice grapefruit, lemon, orange and kiwi. Add fruit and fruit juice to a bowl and pour in one 750 ml bottle of red wine. Next add ½ of the simple syrup (reserve the other half for guests to adjust the sweetness of their individual drinks). Briefly stir mixture and chill for at least 2 hours (overnight is best), to allow for the flavors to fully develop. Serve with a little bit of fruit in each glass. Just before serving top off each glass with club soda (if not using club soda, reduce amount of simple syrup to taste). Give each glass a stir.

½ cup freshly squeezed tangerine juice
½ cup freshly squeezed lime juice
½ cup + 2 tablespoons Clove-Infused Simple Syrup
