Drink This, Wear That: Dia de los Muertos!

We can get down with just about any holiday, and occasionally we go overboard (who, us???) but one of our favorite holidays has to be Dia de los Muertos. It's just so different from anything that we grew up with. Americans have a hard time celebrating the dead, much less dancing with skeletons and decorating sugar skulls! We didn't grow up celebrating this spectacular 2-day Mexican event, but we're making up for lost times now! So what do you drink? Preferably something in the shape of a skull like Crystal Head Vodka! And what to wear??? Well, this gorgeous necklace by Betsey Johnson is certainly a good start!

Bloody Eye Hemorrhage

You've probably heard of the classic Brain Hemorrhage cocktail, well this version is based on personal experience!  We were inspired after Flannery had a blood vessel burst in her eye last year.  It was the grossest thing either of us had ever seen!!!

Bloody Eye Hemorrhage

2 ounces lychee syrup (from can)
2 ounces of any red berry flavored liqueur (We recommend Okanagan's Cherry Liqueur)
1 ounce freshly squeezed lemon juice
1 ounce vodka
1/2 ounce Irish cream
Ice

To a shaker add ice, lychee syrup, red liqueur, lemon juice and vodka.  Shake, shake shake!  Strain into a clear glass and carefully pour Irish cream into glass on the back of a spoon. Garnish with a bloody eye (recipe coming tomorrow...) Who's thirsty???

Halloween Candy Cocktail #3: Reese's Peanut-tini "The Remix"

In case you missed it, last Halloween we dressed up as cocktail glasses and invented the Reese's Peanut-tini!

We've learned a lot in the past year- when it comes to videos, shorter is better, and when it comes to cocktails, simpler is better! We really liked the flavors of this drink, but it just had waaaay too many ingredients. We wanted to make it less complicated, so we came up with this easier and even tastier version!

Reese's Peanut-tini: The Remix

Makes 1

¼ cup peanut butter (with salt)
¼ cup milk
½ ounce vodka
1 ounce Crème de Cacao
Ice

Garnish
Chocolate wafer cookies
Mini Reese’s Peanut Butter cups

To a blender add peanut butter, milk, vodka and Crème de Cacao. Blend. Pour mixture into a cocktail shaker with ice and shake! Strain into a martini glass rimmed in chocolate cookie crumbs and garnish with a stack of peanut butter cups!

Bloggers We Love: Alison & Gail Rubke

Alison & Gail Rubke are the dynamic mother-daughter duo behind the très chic lingerie boutique, Faire Frou Frou in Los Angeles!  They also feature all things sexy and lingerie-inspired on their blog Frou Frou Fashionista! While we haven't met Gail yet, if she's anything like her daughter, we are sure to love her!  We met Alison at a super swanky girls slumber party in Palm Springs where we played dress up and drank Fabulosi-tinis all night long! We recently got the chance to talk to Alison about three of our favorite things- fashion, cocktails & lingerie!

Fashionably Bombed: We love Frou Frou Fashionista! It's so fun and glam! How long have you been blogging and how did you get started?
Alison Rubke: Frou Frou Fashionista started about 5 years ago on a whim. We had already established our boutique and online store, Faire Frou Frou but wanted more personalization with our customers and to share things that weren’t shown in our weekly newsletters and website. The blog started simply as a forum for sharing parts of the luxury lingerie world that inspire us!
FB: It really is inspirational! We are always ready to go lingerie shopping after perusing your blog!

FB: Since your blog and store are all about lingerie, what would you say is the perfect boudoir cocktail?
AR: The perfect boudoir cocktail…that’s a tough one, but for some reason we are sold on anything mixed with Cointreau! One of our favorite customers is Dita von Teese and she’s the spokesperson for Cointreau liqueur, and if you’ve ever seen the packaging she’s done for the brand or any of her advertisements for it, you’d be convinced it makes the perfect boudoir drink too! She makes a pretty drink called the Blush which is basically an improved version of a Greyhound (which happens to be one of our favorite Summer cocktails).
FB: Good choice! We love Cointreau in margaritas too!

FB: If you were going to dress The Fashionably Bombed Girls up for a boudoir photo shoot what would you put us in?
AR: The Fashionably Bombed Girls would look adorable in bright, fun lingerie! Maybe those fun neon lingerie sets from this Summer from Cosabella would be the perfect choice. Or any of the rompers or babydolls from Zinke would be a good match. The bottom line is something that’s fun and sets the tone for celebration!
FB: LOOOVE IT!!! That totally sounds like us!

FB: As you know, we LOVE fashion! So we have to ask you to describe your favorite outfit for us!
AR: My favorite outfit is pretty much something I would wear to work at Faire Frou Frou, which is typically pretty undergarments (like Fifi Chachnil or Vannina Vesperini) layered underneath a knee-length skirt, a tank top or camisole, and a sweater. I am pretty much a J.Crew shopper, so most of my clothes come from there. Of course I love to accessorize with my Christian Louboutin heels and chunky jewelry. There’s a certain chunky turquoise necklace that I own and love to wear!
FB: HA! Oh we know ALL about that certain turquoise necklace!!! (Side note: Flannery and Alison were shocked to discover that they both have the exact same turquoise necklace! In fact, all three of us have many of the same items in our closets!)

FB: When you're at a bar do you ever order a drink to go with your lingerie?
AR: I am ashamed to say that I’ve never ordered a cocktail to match my lingerie…but now you have put that on my to-do list!

FB: Is there a particular Fashionably Bombed cocktail that speaks to you?
AR: Oh my goodness, so many of the Fashionably Bombed cocktails are favorites of mine because they are such show-stoppers! Two favorites that I’ve made are The Skirt and the Fabulosi-tini (served for Mother’s Day!). Pretty much any cocktail that involves Cointreau, St. Germain or Chambord work for me (I like my sweets!), otherwise I’m a tequila gal!

FB: Is there anything else we should know about you and/or your blog? Got any exciting things in the works that you care to share?
AR: Faire Frou Frou has 2 blogs; Frou Frou Fashionista for all luxury lingerie-related topics, and Little Frou Frou Fashionista which is simply inspiration photos of all kinds (mainly fashion). We’re going to begin a new series of blog posts featuring how to wear or layer your lingerie with your outerwear. It’s something we encourage our customers to do, and we thought the blog would be a great place to provide examples of how to do it. We really want ladies to see the potential of lingerie as an accessory…so that’s what the new series will be about.
FB: YAY! We love lingerie as outerwear! In fact, we did a photo shoot recently where we wore brightly colored bras underneath lace tops!

Special thanks to Alison & Gail Rubke! Cheers Ladies!

Drink This, Wear That: The Glow-in-the-Dark Edition!

We've been obsessed with glow-in-the-dark FOREVER!!! As a kid, Flannery's favorite thing was her glow-in-the-dark shoelaces, while Katherine's was her Playskool Glo Snail. Now that we're all grown up (sort of) we've moved on to more sophisticated things that glow-in-the-dark like booze and clothes! Today we're featuring the delicious Taboo Absinthe which just happens to come in a glow-in-the-dark bottle! And can you believe we found this...wait for it...glow-in-the-dark dress? Seriously! We're all over it!!!

Oh, and if you're looking for a tasty and unconventional way to use your absinthe, try our Absinthe Mojito!

Boozy Pumpkin Milkshake

Last fall, only a few months into our new cocktail blogging adventure, we got a little ballsy up in the lab and invented the Bumpkin (Bacon + Pumpkin) Pie-tini. At the time adding bacon, cinnamon schnapps and pumpkin puree to a cocktail really seemed like a good idea!  Fortunately for you, we decided to go with a simpler approach to a fall-themed beverage this year.  Now we're not saying you shouldn't give the Bumpkin Pie-tini a try, we just have a feeling that you might like our new and improved concoction just a teensy weensy bit more!

Boozy Pumpkin Milkshake

Makes 1

4 scoops vanilla ice cream
1/4 cup canned pumpkin puree
2 ½ ounces Vanilla Vodka
1/8 teaspoon cinnamon
Pinch nutmeg
Pinch ground ginger
Pinch cloves
Whipped cream to garnish
Cinnamon stick to garnish

Add all ingredients to a blender and blend!  Pour into a hallowed out mini pumpkin, top with whipped cream and garnish with a cimammon stick.

Drink This, Wear That: The Black & Orange Edition

We are all about the Halloween spirit this year!!! And although we've got lots of crazy costume ideas, nothing is classier than a chic black and orange ensemble. We just adore this silk pleated dress by Bottega Veneta! And it wouldn't be Halloween without a sleek black bottle of Absolut 100!!!
