3 1/2 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 1/2 ground ginger
1 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon ground cloves
1/2 cup softened butter
3/4 cup sugar
3/4 cup molasses
1 teaspoon lemon zest
3 3/4 cups powdered sugar
1/3 cup egg whites
Step #1: Put on a fabulously sparkly gold ring!
Step #2: Adorn your arms with these adorable gold glitter bangles by Betsey Johnson!
Step #3: Sift together your dry ingredients (flour, baking soda, salt, ground ginger, ground cinnamon and ground cloves).
Step #4: In a separate bowl use an electric mixer to beat butter, sugar and egg until fluffy. Add molasses and lemon zest and mix well.
Step #5: Add flour mixture and stir with a wooden spoon.
Step #6: Separate dough into four equal parts, wrap in plastic and refrigerate overnight.
Step #7: Roll dough out between two pieces of wax paper.
Step #8: Cut out your gingerbread man (or woman!)
Step #9: Grease a cookie sheet and place a lollipop stick behind your cookies. Bake at 375 degrees for 6-8 minutes. Makes about 7 dozen!
Step #10: Make your icing by combining powdered sugar and egg whites in a mixer on high.
Step #11: Fill pastry bag with icing and use a #3 tip (or snip a tiny corner off of a Ziploc bag if you don't have a pastry bag). Outline the edge of your cookie.
Step #12: Decorate your cookie with cinnamon buttons or whatever strikes your fancy!
