Fashionably Bombed in Zacatecas, Mexico

As you may have heard, "We're Mexican! Deal with it!" and in order to get in touch with our roots, we recently took a family trip with our grandfather to his homeland, Zacatecas, Mexico. The trip inspired us on many levels, but as always, we had fashion & cocktails on the brain!

The motley crew! The only flights from LAX to Zacatecas arrived at 6am!

We stayed at the beautiful Hotel Emporio in downtown Zacatecas and all of our rooms had balconies overlooking the Zócalo!

We wore our twin outfits all over the city and made many a head turn! We were even interviewed by the local newspaper!

The fumes from our taxi almost made us pass out, proving that you should never leave home without a pashmina!

Katherine's favorite part of the trip- Paletas (Mexican popsicles)!  We had to stop at every paletería so she could check all out all of the different flavors. PS: Note that her hoodie is covered in ice cream confections!

Fashionably Bombed Classic Margarita

Here it is! The secret Montaño Family recipe for Margaritas! But SHHHHHHHHHH! Don't tell...


On Katherine & Flannery: Blouses and scarves purchased while on vacation in Zacatecas, Mexico

Classic Margarita

Makes 4

1 cup tequila
1 cup freshly squeezed lime juice
1/2 cup triple sec
1/2 cup sugar
Ice

Add tequila, lime juice, triple sec and sugar to blender. Blend. Then add 2-4 cups of ice and blend until slushy. Grate fresh lime rind on top of each drink.

Fashionably Bombed Strawberry, Basil & Chia Seed Mojito!

Well we’ve really done it this time! We’ve invented a cocktail that’s good for you! Wait, WHAT? Yes, it’s true! And even if we’re lying... they’re delicious, so who cares? As you may or may not know Chia Seeds were once the food of the Aztecs, and are an excellent source of omega-3 fatty acids. So drink up, because these things are healthy and delicious!


On Katherine: Top by Bebe, Necklace by Nordstrom
On Flannery: Top by Ella Moss, Necklace by Banana Republic

Strawberry, Basil & Chia Seed Mojito

Makes 1

1 teaspoon chia seeds
2 tablespoons water
2 tablespoons freshly squeezed lime juice
2 tablespoons sugar
4 ripe, roughly chopped strawberries
5 fresh, torn basil leaves
2-4 tablespoons white rum
Club soda to top off

Before you begin, soak the chia seeds in 2 tablespoons of water for 15 minutes.
Combine lime juice, sugar, strawberries and basil leaves in a highball glass. Next muddle ingredients together. Add 2-4 tablespoons of white rum (depending on how "Fashionably Bombed" you want to get!) and stir. Next add pre-soaked chia seeds and stir. Finally, add crushed ice and top off with club soda. Garnish with a basil-stuffed strawberry!
