Fashionably Bombed Cherry & Vanilla Bean Mojito!

Ready to get bombed???  This mojito is SOOOOOOOOO tasty you'll have a hard time drinking just one!  We tried making this drink in a variety of different ways (vanilla bean seeds in the drink, whole vanilla bean muddled into the drink, etc...) but we found the vanilla bean simple syrup was the best way to go because the flavor is much more intense!  Enjoy!

Cherry Vanilla Bean Mojito

Makes 1

2 tablespoons freshly squeezed lime juice
2 tablespoons Vanilla Bean Simple Syrup (see recipe below)
10 ripe cherries
10 fresh mint leaves
2-4 tablespoons white rum
Club soda to top off

Combine lime juice, vanilla bean syrup, cherries and mint leaves in a highball glass. Next muddle ingredients together.  Next add 2-4 tablespoons of white rum (depending on how "Fashionably Bombed" you want to get!) and stir. Add crushed ice and top off with club soda. Garnish with a skewer alternating between cherries and mint leaves!

Vanilla Bean Simple Syrup

1 cup sugar
1 cup water
1 whole vanilla bean

Slice open vanilla bean and scrape out seeds. Combine water, sugar, vanilla bean pod and seeds in a medium saucepan.  Boil until sugar has dissolved, stirring frequently.  Let cool and store in refrigerator.  Easy- right???

Fashionably Bombed Moroccan Mojito

Since Katherine's latest obsession is rose water, and since our first Fashionably Bombed cocktail was the Mojito, AND since we've both traveled to Morocco, it was very exciting when we happened to stumble upon an intriguing recipe for Moroccan Mojitos in an old issue of Bon Appetit!  The rose water and cardamom additions make these Mojitos both exotic and delicious, so whip up a batch already!

Moroccan Mojito (Adapted from Bon Appétit ):

Makes 1

10 mint sprigs
1 tablespoon sugar
1 tablespoon lime juice
1-2 cardamom pods
1 Tablespoon light rum
1 Tablespoon dark rum
1 teaspoon triple sec
4-5 drops rose water ( Nielsen-Massey Rose Water has a great flavor and the label is so pretty!)
Crushed ice
Club soda

Using a muddler, mash mint leaves, sugar and lime juice in a glass.  Remove cardamom seeds from pods & crush into a fine powder using a mortar & pestle and add to glass.  Next add light and dark rums, triple sec and rose water. Stir, then fill glass with crushed ice and top with club soda.  Garnish with a rose!

Fashionably Bombed Classic Mojito

Welcome to the first episode of Fashionably Bombed!  Since we both love Mojitos, especially our gourmet versions, and since it's summer, we thought the Mojito would be perfect for our first series of cocktails!  Our friends and family are always raving about our Mojitos and we’re constantly getting requests for our recipes, so now they're here for all to enjoy! We're starting with our Classic Mojito, but more exotic versions are still to come...

Classic Mojito

Makes 1

2 tablespoons freshly squeezed lime juice
Tip: If your limes are hard, put them in the microwave for 10 seconds to soften.
Rind of ½ a lime roughly cut into 3-4 pieces
2 tablespoons superfine sugar
10 fresh mint leaves
2-4 tablespoons white rum
Club soda to top off

Combine lime juice, sugar, mint leaves and lime rind in a highball glass. Next muddle ingredients together. If you don’t have a muddler, you can use any flat utensil with a handle, such as a spoon.  This process helps to release the natural lime and mint oils when muddling. For extra lime flavor you can also add the zest of 1 lime.
Next add 2-4 tablespoons of white rum (depending on how "Fashionably Bombed" you want to get!) and stir.  Add crushed ice and top off with club soda.
Garnish with a mint sprig!

Palm Springs Cocktail Challenge!

When we arrived in Palm Springs on
Friday night to help celebrate the
birthday of our childhood friend, we
were immediately asked to whip up
one of our custom cocktail creations.
Apparently our reputation had preceded us!

In an attempt to
avoid going to the
grocery store,we
decided to challenge
ourselves by working
with what we could
scrounge up from the
liquor cabinet and

Here is the recipe for the delicious little number that we came up with:

Palm Springs Punch

Makes 4

3 limes
10 strawberries (sliced)
2 peaches (sliced)
1 large pink grapefruit
1/4 cup sugar (or to taste)
1/2 cup Ruby Red Absolut vodka
Pink lemonade soda

Squeeze limes and pink grapefruit.  Add strawberries, peaches and sugar to juice mixture and muddle.  Add vodka and stir.  Add ice and top off with pink lemonade soda.

Not bad for a "work with what you've got" cocktail challenge!
